This class focuses on an exploration of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to alignment, mindfulness and working with breath and gravity to release and extend the spine. Therapeutic in nature, you will learn techniques to help you gain flexibility and stability, while immersing yourself in a relaxing class that moves at a slow pace for all students, regardless of age or physical ability. Meditation and pranayama will also be introduced, perfect for stress relief and overall well being.
Vinyasa is "breath synchronized movement". Each class will begin with instruction in Ujayii (victorious) breath which is the traditional breathing technique used during this flowing style of yoga. Then we will break down the transitions between movements found in most hatha or multilevel classes. We start with basic vinyasas of arm circles and cat/cow. Then build up to different versions of the Sun Salute (Surya Namaskar) designed to warm, strengthen and open up the body. We practice stepping into lunge smoothly and add the postures of Chair (Utkatasana), Runners lunge(Low Lunge), Crescent (High lunge). Whether the pace is faster or slower, time will be taken to allow students to cultivate healthy alignment and deeper body awareness. Each month will have a different focus within the practice.
Motion as Breathing is the energy of Life. It is immensely significant to understand that all approaches to meditation acknowledge the power of being aware of breathing. It is equally significant to understand and acknowledge the power of turning Awareness back on itself and see that whenever you do attend to your breathing you harmonize with your innate intelligence. Awareness of, seeing, your breathing always benefits your body and mind. This class is taught at a moderate pace that allows one to dive deeply into the asanas. Gabrielle's approach supports the student in dissolving into a more open, fluid body with a relaxed, steady mind. Will include asana, pranayama, & meditation.
TriYoga Flows (Prasara), a complete hatha yoga method, is the union of posture, breath and focus - or asana, pranayama and mudra. TriYoga fundamentals include relaxation-in-action, wave-like spinal movements and economy of motion. With the systematic approach, students can remain with Basics or progress to subsequent levels. Within each level, students increase their knowledge of posture and flow, as well as strength, flexibility, endurance and breath control. Through sustained awareness on all aspects of the practice, the movement of body, breath and mudra harmonize and the inner flow naturally emerges. The breath becomes even and rhythmical, the mind focused and calm. This naturally creates a harmonious inner state, the firm foundation of meditation. Triyoga Classes focus on the TriYoga flows and conclude with deep relaxation, rhytmic breathing, concentration and meditation. Each part is integral to the practice. Each Level Corresponds to the Chakra System. Level 1 Earth, Level 2 Water and so on. Within each level there are "versions." Level 1 series 1 is Earth/Earth. Level 1 Series 2 is Earth/Water and so on. Level 2 Series 1 is Water/Earth. Each Version has a season. Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. All are designed for a balanced practice.
